Blinging Out Trucks Since Always

Truck Centre BOP Limited was established in the late 80’s by two well known trucking identities, Ian Knight and Tracey Mackay, on the very site we occupy today. Dale Greaves (another well-known identity) was appointed the GM.

The company was established to import, supply and service the Western Star product which was a very popular product in Canada, USA and Australia but relatively new to NZ but soon to became very popular.

The company grew quickly and over the years sold many Western Stars in both the North and South Island. The Truck Centre soon outgrew the original site and moved to a new site on Hewlett's Road.

Truck Stops eventually took over the Western Star dealership and the remaining shareholders, Ian and his son Mark Knight, continued operating the Truck Centre as a parts importer/supplier. Gavin Collins became a shareholder, and in the late 2000s they decided to build a facility in Aerodrome Road. Back then, this was a modest operation selling mechanical parts and accessories to local truckers.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve grown into a nationwide supplier – importing from all round the world, distributing and selling a wide range of truck accessories, chrome gear, lighting, cleaning products and more to trucking businesses, mechanics and truck owners all over New Zealand.

As demand grew, so did our product range, and before long our warehouse and tiny showroom were bursting at the seams. It became clear we needed a bigger space to better serve our customers and showcase what we do best.

In early 2024, the opportunity came up to move back into the original building at 2 Macdonald Street, Mt Maunganui. With the full support of the property owner, we rolled up our sleeves and transformed the place – upgrading it into a modern warehouse, showroom and workshop space that now proudly stands as the new home of Truck Centre.

It was a massive team effort, and in November 2024, we officially opened the doors to our new location.

Meet Mike Dean – Owner & Managing Director

Mike’s journey started under the hood – originally a truck mechanic then owner driver he went on to build his own trucking business, delivering refrigerated meats for AFFCO and many other meat producers to butcher shops, supermarkets and cool stores across the North Island, he also contracted to Harvey Farms which later became Inghams delivering stock and chicken feed all over the North Island.

At its peak, he was running a fleet of 35 trucks and a crew of over 50 staff.

But Mike’s passion didn’t stop at logistics – he’s always had a soft spot for restoring classic rigs. That love for trucks led him to become co-owner of Truck Centre in 2017, and in 2021 he took the leap, selling his ground-up, fully restored Western Star to buy the business outright (don’t worry, that story has a great twist – check it out in our Chrome Zone feature here!).

These days, Mike’s not behind the wheel full-time, but he’s still hands-on – helping truckies upgrade, restore and bling out their rides with pride with the rest of the team here at the Truck Centre. And there’s more to come...
