Our Western Star Returns

Back in 2017, our very own Mike Dean, Truck Centre’s owner and managing director, picked up a very sad but original 1995 Western Star.

Dale Greaves from Star Trucks International in Nelson sold this truck to one of his clients when he was the was the Western Star dealer.Mike was running his trucking business, hauling refrigerated meats for Affco and stock food for Harvey  Farms and Inghams.

This truck wasn’t just another old workhorse, it was a personal restoration project and a bit of a passion project for Mike.

Mike and Rob Chesham (his old mate) poured hours of sweat and pride into restoring the rig, adding all that signature bling and comfort to make it a true head-turner on the road. This was a full ground up restoration right down to the bare chassis rails.

The project took almost 4 years as we only worked on it in between other customers jobs. The transformation was so good that Dale couldn’t resist – in 2021, he jumped at the chance to buy the truck back from Mike with the view of showing it at truck shows etc

As time rolls on, circumstances change, and Dale doesn’t really have a need for it anymore - lack of time and with too many other projects on the go, Dale suggested we bring it back up to Mount Maunganui to display it as was the original intension.

We are now the care takers of this beauty for a period so it can be shown and displayed as originally intended.
