Get Your Chrome Shining Again With Kings of Chrome
You wash the rig. You check the tyres. Then you step back and the chrome looks tired.
Dull chrome does that. It’s the first thing people see, and it can make a good truck look a bit sorry for itself.
The fix isn’t hard. You need a good polish, a soft cloth and a bit of time. We stock the Kings of Chrome polishing range in our showroom and online. Here’s how to get the most out of it.
Start with a clean truck
Polish doesn’t like dirt. Grit and road film get dragged around by your cloth. That’s how you end up with scratches you didn’t want.
Wash the part first. Rinse it well. Dry it with a clean cloth. If you can, work in the shade. Polish dries faster on hot metal, and that makes it harder to work with.
Use a little, not a lot
More polish doesn’t mean more shine. It just means more to wipe off.
Put a small amount on a soft cloth. Work one small patch at a time. Use steady, even strokes. Read the label on your product too. Different products suit different jobs.
Buff it off
Once the polish has done its job, wipe it off with a clean, dry cloth. Flip the cloth often. A dirty cloth just moves the gunk around.
Keep going until the surface is clear and bright. Then step back and have a look. That’s the best bit.
Where to start on your rig
Not sure where to begin? Here are the usual suspects:
- Bumper and bull bar
- Mirror arms
- Exhaust stacks
- Light surrounds
- Wheel trims
Pick one and do it properly. Once you see the difference, you’ll want to do the lot. We’ve all been there.
Match the polish to the job
Chrome, stainless and alloy can all need different care. Some jobs just need a gentle tidy-up. Others need more work.
If you’re not sure what suits your gear, ask us. Tell us what you’re polishing and what shape it’s in. We’ll help you pick the right product from the range. If you’re unsure, test a small spot first.
Keep it up
Little and often beats a big job once a year. A quick polish now and then keeps chrome looking good. It also makes the next big clean easier.
Got a classic you’re bringing back? Old chrome can be a different story. If it’s pitted or flaking, polish might not be enough. Pop in and have a yarn. We’ll tell you straight whether polish will do the job or whether it’s time to look at a new part.
